December 12, 2018: If you missed our previous Call for Papers, never fear. We’ve just opened the Round 2 Call for Papers for NVJS 11, scheduled for publication in mid-2019.
Who can submit?
As always, we’re seeking papers on Japan from Honours, Masters and PhD students (or recent graduates thereof) with ties to Australia or New Zealand. Note that if you are an overseas postgraduate student (or recent graduate) and have recently presented at an Asian Studies Association of Australia (ASAA) conference or a Japanese Association of Australia (JSAA) conference, you may be eligible to submit.
What kind of submissions are you looking for?
We publish sole-authored, original research from the humanities, social sciences and related disciplines with a focus on Japan. Word counts must be 5,000-8,000 words (including footnotes, not including references). See our Submission Guidelines for details.

Is NVJS peer-reviewed?
Yes! NVJS is double-blind peer-reviewed by at least two experts in relevant fields. It is also rigorously reviewed in-house by our academic Guest Editor and Series Editor.
