July 30, 2021: It’s official! Our New Voices Scholar panel proposal has been accepted, which means that three NVJS authors will be presenting their work side by side (virtually) at the Japanese Studies Association of Australia Conference.
All three panellists are recent PhD graduates whose work crosses disciplinary boundaries and who seek to make critical interventions in their areas of expertise. Their attendance at #JSAA2021 will be supported by the New Voices Scholar Program.
From left, the panellists are:
- Dr Megan Rose (read her #NVJS12 paper on alternative kawaii fashion in Harajuku)
- Dr Haydn Trowell (read his #NVJS12 paper on novelist Yasunari Kawabata’s use of linked verse style)
- Dr Maria Cynthia Barriga (read an excerpt from her forthcoming #NVJS13 discussion paper on the transnational relevance of Japanese Studies)
The panel is titled “Fresh Perspectives from New Voices in Japanese Studies: Kawaii Fashion, Literature and Japan in Transregional Context”, and will be chaired by #NVJS13 Guest Editor Dr Gwyn McClelland (University of New England). Gwyn will also facilitate a pre-conference workshop for the panellists to discuss presentation strategies and broader ways of finding an audience.
We congratulate the authors on their selection for this year’s New Voices Scholar program, and we look forward to seeing them share their work at #JSAA2021.
